SPECIAL NOTE: Dictator has decided to up the ante and begin writing articles as well as producing podcasts. The articles and podcasts will generally not be the same material. The podcasts will definitely be more fun. Please let us know your thoughts in the Comments section. (Fans of Sounder should not be concerned. When he’s not editing the podcast I have him on typewriter maintenance, as sometimes I tend to break the keys.)
Years ago, as a television reporter in Milwaukee, I covered a fatal fire that had taken the life of an infant. Police said the baby was asleep on the couch in the living room. The mom was looking underneath the couch for a pack of cigarettes. She used a Bic lighter for illumination. She told police she went to the kitchen and turned around a few minutes later and the living room was completely ablaze.
I asked the detective who was investigating the fire if anyone would be charged in the baby’s death and he looked at me and said, “…probably not because it’s not illegal to be stupid.”
If I was Dictator for a Day I’d try to find a way to outlaw stupidity.
California legislators are on top of it. (The Stupidity Stack)
While their state burns to the ground around their constituents, California legislators have convened a session to Trump-Proof California!
Former California Senate leader and Democrat-turned Republican Gloria Romero says California legislators are tone-deaf to Californian’s needs and beliefs.
Tone deaf is hardly the word for it. After thinking about this for several months, I believe the word for it is stupid. Idiotic and moronic also come to mind, but stupidity is really the basis for this and much Democrat thinking. At least, the policy-making. There is also blissful ignorance on the part of many liberal voters who are ultimately responsible for putting stupid people into office. That in itself is a form of stupidity; failing to know, understand or learn what the real problems are, or examine both sides of an issue with an open mind. They simply go along, in blissful ignorance, voting Democrat as always. Reality be damned. Until now.
California has become hell on earth and a microcosm of what could have happened to the rest of the country had it not been for the near escape from Democrat thinking provided by the last election.
But some in California still don’t get it or don’t want to.
As their community burns, California legislators are putting ideology ahead of basic human needs and the only reason for having government in the first place: to provide order and protection for the citizens that the elected people serve. California lawmakers should be thrown out of office. Give them a fair recall vote and then toss their asses out of the statehouse. If they still want government jobs, hand them shovels and see if they’re competent enough to help with the cleanup. Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass should bring their own shovels.
Californians have become addicted to illogical woke, DEI—laden Democrat thinking that puts wishful thinking, who you are sleeping with and the color of your skin ahead of practical realities like the need for police and fire protection.
What utter stupidity! And there are plenty of signs that the people who are promoting this illogical crap are also stupid. How else can anyone explain Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass standing dumb and silent to a reporter’s questions upon her return from Ghana. (Ghana?) The reporter keeps asking “Why were you in Ghana? Do you feel any responsibility for what has happened while you were gone? Do you have anything to say to Los Angeles residents?” Question after question and she simply stands there, stone cold deaf. As a public official she has an obligation to answer. Hours later, reading a scripted statement in front of news cameras, she reads the letters “U-R-L” ( placeholder) instead of providing the actual website for California residents needing help. Deja vu Joe Biden. It’s bad enough the mayor is sending people without electrical power or cell service to a website for help. But then to just say “go to U-R-L…” and not correct your own error! Stupidity is all that explains it. And of course, incompetence when it comes time to do the real work.
In these instances the immense and continuing lack of logical behavior is what’s symptomatic about stupidity. It’s the denial of common sense solutions. If you can’t recognize illogical behavior, if you participate in it or promote it, if you cannot govern putting common sense ahead of politics for the most basic necessities, you are stupid. And there’s no logic to most Democrat thinking because most of it doesn’t work. (Note: Republicans also engage in their share of this but that’s another article.)
When you defund the police because somehow you think the police are the criminals and then your city is overrun by criminals, and you don’t restore police funding, that’s illogical and the failure to recognize that it’s illogical is stupidity.
When you open the border and allow millions of illegal aliens to trample our country, to commit rape, murder and other crimes against Americans, that’s either stupid or a nefarious plot to gain new voters because your current voting block is eroding as the electorate gets wise to you.
When you put your hand on a hot stove and pull it back because it’s hot, then do it again, that’s beyond stupidity. It’s insanity. That’s what illogical Democrat thinking has brought to California. And it is a near miss for the rest of the country.
An Awakening
The awakening, which had been bubbling under the surface of public awareness, finally surfaced for many Americans when FEMA declared it had no money to help hurricane victims in the Southeast, having spent it all on illegal immigrants. Many saw that as the last straw, the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. And America voted accordingly.
But multiple fires in Los Angeles became the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and the eighth last straws for that community. To overwork this metaphor, the camel has been completely crushed in California. It may never stand again, and it’s a result of sheer stupidity.
We’ve seen how over the last four years stupidity took over America.
I won’t spend time reciting the sins of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Liz Chaney and the rest of the Democrat mob.
Stupidity by our elected leaders cannot be tolerated. It must be called out loudly wherever and whenever it happens and as often as needed until our leaders act responsibly, get out or get thrown out.
To that end criticism of our government is essential. It is so essential the founding fathers of our country protected it in the very first amendment to our constitution. The return of free speech, or more accurately, the canceling of censorship and the undaunted bullheadedness of independent social media reporters helped reveal more and more truths about the last four years.
Complacency is Easy in Paradise
Tragically it proved too little, too late for California. Residents stupidly became complacent practitioners of blissful ignorance. In a post-Reagan era, traditional Democrats were replaced by left-wing ideologues. Government was hijacked by enviromaniacs, unions and career liberal bureaucrats and politicians like Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass.
Complacency was easy in paradise. Not enough people spoke soon enough or loudly enough, so not enough people heard about what their elected leaders weren't doing (like protecting the water supply and maintaining fire hydrants).
Instead, DEI and Wokeness became fashionable. So was budgeting more money for homelessness in Los Angeles than for the Fire Department ($847 million for Fire versus $1.3 Billion for homeless).
Perhaps LA voters did not want to hear that the politicians they kept electing had done them wrong. That silly, niche' ideologies were put front and center stage (often in a bad dress) ahead of practical conventions including adequate police and fire protection. Every day was a sunny day but LA was in bed with idiots, a lot of dry kindling and faulty fire hydrants.
Don’t become complacent. Never let your guard down. Be always vigilant. Protect your piece of paradise wherever you reside.
If you see something say something.
And never, ever let your right to say it be infringed.
Your very existence may be endangered. In California, it’s already been destroyed.
Well done!
No; they’re evil.
